Paul Schoeman Memorial Nature Area
Discover Paul Schoeman Memorial Nature Area in New Hartford
The Paul Schoeman Memorial Nature Area is a wetland/upland area comprised of cool season grasses, replanted prairie, and wetland vegetation. The area has two shallow ponds and a wet area in the northeast corner that provide habitat for a variety of wildlife. A replanted prairie covers most of the west portion of the park and there are plans to establish a small oak savanna on the southwest corner of the park. Donated to Butler County Conservation in 2002, the management of the area is guided by the request of the donor to be used as a nature study area and wildlife refuge.
Today nearly 3/4 of a mile of trails, including a wetland boardwalk with observation deck, wind through the area and allow park visitors to explore the area's 29 acres. Interpretive signs help visitors learn about the area's natural resources and a wildlife food plot and bluebird bird houses attract wildlife to the area for easy viewing.
