Grundy County Heritage Museum
Overview
The Grundy County Heritage Museum & Grundy County Conservation Office This building houses the offices of the Grundy County Conservation Board and many interpretive displays. The main museum or “Ag Hall” features exhibits with the theme “From Grasslands to Granaries” and tells the story of agricultural development in Grundy County from Native American farming to the more modern methods of the 1930’s. A wickiup, a general store, a 1900s house and barn and so much more have been recreated inside. In addition to this, the museum houses the Robert Voigt Collection: highlights from a mass of 3,500 prehistoric artifacts collected from his lifetime, including axe heads, points, scrapers, drills and bifaces. Kids will enjoy the interactive touch room, where animal bones, pelts, feathers, antlers, and more can all be picked up and explored firsthand. Several other buildings are located on the museum grounds and are open by appointment: The Morrison Brick Schoolhouse, the Colfax No. 3 School, and the Peck Log Cabin. The Grundy County Heritage Museum is open year-round on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 8:00 - 4:30pm.
