Event Summary
This event is on the East Side of Prairie Creek, off the 223rd Avenue Parking lot
Water connects us all, from the small ephemeral streams to the mighty Mississippi. Learn about the water we have in our one backyard, what effects it, and then explore the creek yourself. This event will have two sessions. Participants do not have to come to both sessions.
Session 1: Invisible Indicators
- 10:00AM-11:00AM
- This session focuses on the chemical quality of a stream. We will be talking about the different chemicals that are studied in a stream and what they indicate. We will also cover the water testing being done in Prairie Creek and citizen science opportunities that the public can participate in.
- All ages are welcome, but the content will be geared towards older kids and adults.
We will be catching macroinvertebrates (bugs) in the stream between 11:00-11:30AM for Session 2. Participants from Session 1 are welcome to join in this time and help us look for critters in the stream.
Session 2: Creek Critters
- 11:30AM-12:30PM
- There are many insects that call the stream home! View some common invertebrates and what they can tell us about the stream’s health. Then get in the water and find some critters yourself!
- All ages are welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.
