UPDATED: Parent Information

We are very excited to offer this new summer camp! The trip is going to be super fun and we will get to see many varieties of wildlife – big and small. It is important that your child be reminded that they will be given safety instructions to follow and given boundaries of where they can & cannot go at each location - but especially at the buffalo ranch. Our guide will keep us safe, but we need to do our part to help keep ourselves safe and ensure we all have a wonderful day.

Please review the following with your camper!

We ask that children be prompt in the morning so as not to delay our road trip.

Please have your child wear old clothes and grubby tennis shoes or hiking shoes. From buffalo chips to wetlands – we will get messy!

They will need a sack lunch, refillable water bottle and lunch drink(s), snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray/wipes in a backpack or canvas bag.

We are planning to visit Hawkeye Buffalo Ranch near Fredericksburg to take a wagon ride into the woods and meet the buffalo. We will keep our eyes open for other wildlife too - deer, sand hill cranes, hawks, songbirds, and occasionally eagles.

We will have lunch at Split Rock Park. We’ll keep our eyes out for wildlife – and have a chance to check out the playground equipment or play Frisbee.

While visiting Twin Ponds Nature Center in Ionia, we’ll see large and small animal mounts and a live animal display including reptiles, amphibians, bees and fish. We’ll watch for woodland creatures, visit the bird blind, and see what we can scoop up for wetland creatures.

It will take about 35 minutes to travel to the Buffalo Ranch and another 40 minutes to return from Twin Ponds. We ask that kids bring along quiet activities to do in the van (a book, mad libs, tablet with headphones, or music with headphones).

We will eat a lunch around 11:30 or 12:00. Please pack generously as it seems the kids never have enough fuel to get through the day. Give them a good hearty breakfast too. And pack a snack that they can eat in the van if needed.
