Buena Vista County Conservation manages16 areas containing over 1145 acres of parks, refuges, historic sites and natural areas. The areas include developed park and wildlife areas where the public can enjoy camping, hiking, picnicking, boating, fishing, hunting, trapping, bird watching and other outdoors activities. The Board strives to provide a broad range of recreation for the public including hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, bird watching, winter activities and the enjoyment of the great outdoors and promotes conservation, water quality protection and improvement of wildlife habitat.

Activities in Buena Vista CountyThe Conservation Departments employs a full-time naturalist whose major commitment is educating children through programs in the schools. The naturalist works closely with teachers to enhance the school curriculum. Programs are also given to scout groups, retirement homes, civic groups and clubs. Daycamps and library programs are promoted during the summer.
