Cedar Valley Nature Trail closed for replacement of West Blue Creek Bridge
WEST BLUE CREEK BRIDGE TO BE REPLACED THIS SPRING
The Cedar Valley Nature Trail will be closed from Urbana Road to 56th St Dr in Benton County for work associated with the the West Blue Creek Bridge. This project, which included several years of budgeting and planning, will replace the deteroriating 270 foot bridge. Taylor Bridge Company was awarded the low bid of $599,294.18. Engineering estimate was $730,000. This closure along the trail is expected until early spring or late summer.
CEDAR VALLEY NATURE TRAIL PAVING UPDATE:
Hard surfacing along the Cedar Valley Nature Trail (CVNT) from Schultz Road to Iowa Street in Center Point has been completed. This paving project (phase 4) involves adding an asphalt surface, seal coating, drainage improvements, ditch maintenance, and other related activities. In the spring of 2017, a concrete overlay will be applied to the trail from Iowa Street through Center Point to the Grubbs Creek Bridge just north of town near Ash Lane.
Veith Construction from Cedar Falls was awarded the project with its low bid of $958,000. Funding sources include private funding/donations, dollars from the Linn County Conservation reserve fund, and some funding from the Local Option Sales Tax. Linn County Conservation was also awarded a $600,000 IDOT State Recreation Trails Grant by the Iowa Department of Transportation Commission.
