3rd, 4th, 5th Grade Camp - Mammals of Iowa

JUL 16 2026 8:00 AM

University 40 , Calhoun County

Event Summary

Become a wildlife biologist for a morning! This half-day camp is designed for older elementary students who want to go beyond the basics. We’ll dive deep into the world of Iowa’s mammals, from the tiny masked shrew to the majestic white-tailed deer.

Using real biological tools, we will examine skulls and teeth to determine an animal's diet, feel the specialized "winter coats" of different species, and learn the science of camouflage. We’ll hit the trails to set up a mock "wildlife survey" and search for active dens and burrows. We will also have a snack during this camp! Come discover the amazing adaptations that allow mammals to rule the land!
