Exploring our Cultural Past / Local History Car Caravan Tour

Event Summary
Explore some of Hamilton and Webster Counties historical past on this car caravan tour. We will travel over a portion of both counties on this program offered by Hamilton and Webster County Conservation Boards. We will discuss some area history covering the area glaciation , prehistoric woodland culture, expiration by the French Dragoons, European settlement of Iowa in the 1800s, gristmills and saw mills on the Boone and Des Moines Rivers, pioneer school houses of rural Iowa, Spirt Lake Indian uprising and Massacre, and the building of the original Fort Dodge. This program is for people who are interested in our local history that centers on the river valleys and crosses over into both counties. We will eat a late lunch at Tom Thumb Drive Inn in Fort Dodge if you would like to join us after the tour is done at the Fort Museum. Register your spot by preregistering by email hccblaird@wmtel.net or call us at 515-832-9570. The Fort Museum charges $10.00 tour fee paid at the Trading Post on site.
Time: 9:00 am Start history tour at Bell’s Mill Park.
10:00 am Depart Bell’s Mill Park for Vegors Cemetery.
11:30 am Depart Vegors Cemetery for Fort Museum in Fort Dodge.
12:00 pm Tour Fort Museum in Fort Dodge.
1:30 pm Depart Lunch on your own or join us at Tom Thumb Drive Inn in Fort Dodge
