Description
DESCRIPTION: Position
available to assist permanent staff with management and maintenance of 2,200
acres of parks, trails, prairies, wetlands, and forest in Central Iowa. Duties
will include but not limited to mowing, painting, litter pick-up, general
carpentry, prairie maintenance, and planting/pruning trees and shrubs.
Conservation Aides will also report/repair safety hazards; offer assistance and
information to the public; maintain working relationships with other employees
and the public; attend mandatory safety training, staff meeting; and perform
related tasks as assigned. Work will involve but not limited to the operation
of tractors, farm implements, chainsaws, lawn mowers and power tools.
QUALIFICATIONS: Either be enrolled in or have a degree in one of the
following fields; wildlife, biology, animal ecology, natural resource
management, forestry, or related fields of study. Must be at least 18 years
old, no felony convictions, and ability to get to and from primary work site,
possess a current valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Wild lands
fire training S-130/190 certification. Ability to routinely stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop,
balance, climb, and safely operate a wide variety of hand tools, power tools,
mowers, tractors and other farm machinery, lift up to 75 pounds, follow written
and oral instructions, work without supervision if required, work outdoors and
is likely to be in contact with dust, dirt, chemicals, noise and severe weather
conditions (extreme hot, cold, snow, ice, wind, rain, and flood), and exposed
to outdoor elements such as mosquitoes, ticks, and various plants, pollens, and
fungi. Must and be able to identify native and introduced/invasive plant and
animal species.
