Summer Environmental Educator -Americorps 4-H

Description

The Tama County Conservation Board is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a temporary AmeriCorps 4-H Environmental Education member during Summer 2024 based out of Otter Creek Lake & Park near Toledo, IA. Under the general supervision of our Naturalist, this individual will assist in the planning, development, and implementation of environmental education programming for schools, summer camps, community groups,  and the general public in Tama County.

Duties: The AmeriCorps 4-H Environmental Educator will be responsible for identifying and delivering research-based curriculum to youth in Tama County which incorporate youth life skill development and educational content in their natural environments. Member activities may include the following:      

  • Plan and conduct educational programming throughout Tama County      
  • Develop lesson plans on conservation-related topics and integrate lesson plans into educational programming for summer camps, daycares, schools, etc.     
  • Lead educational sessions during summer camps     
  • Collect data on program attendance to evaluate Tama County Conservation’s educational efforts   
  • Promote programs and conduct outreach throughout Tama County to increase interest in and knowledge of conservation education    
  • Create educational resources for print and online use on the Tama County Conservation website     
  • Create educational activity kits for use by schools and other organizations   
  • Deliver educational programming to local nursing homes and senior centers

Work Hours: 30-40 hours per week, totaling a minimum of 450 hours throughout the summer to fulfill AmeriCorps quarter-time member requirements. 

Pay: The member will receive a maximum living allowance of $4500 distributed throughout term of service and will receive a $1824 Education Award upon completion of term.

Physical Requirements: Able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, reach, pull, push, sit, grab, lift, and carry (up to 50 lbs.) daily in all weather conditions.

Qualifications
Highschool diploma or above. Must be at least 18 years of age, be a U.S. citizen or have a permanent resident visa, be able to pass a background check, and possess a valid driver’s license.
