Russell Wildlife Area and Vos Addition


Russell Wildlife Area is 220-acre tract that surrounds the MCCB Maintenance Shop is an excellent example of disturbed land that has been allowed to revert back to its natural state.  Part of the area was once a limestone quarry and crushing operation.  The area also contains a large expanse of floodplain forest and an upland prairie restoration.  The Vos Addition adds 202 acres to the Russell Wildlife Area; expanding the floodplain forest and timberland.  

Location

The wildlife area surrounds the conservation center and extends south to the South Skunk River.  Russell Wildlife Area can be found at 2254 200th Street, New Sharon, IA.





Features

The area's five quarry ponds offer anglers the chance to catch large mouth bass, bluegill, green sunfish, crappie, and channel catfish.  Small boats, canoes and kayaks are permitted on all of the ponds.

Operating Hours & Seasons

Shooting range open during daylight hours.  Park hours are 6 a.m. till 10:30 p.m.
