The Naturalist School: Late Summer Field Season 6 Session Workshop

Join us for the Late Summer Field Season of The Naturalist School at Hitchcock Nature Center. This 6 session field season begins on Sunday, August 13th & concludes on Saturday September 16th. Saturday sessions will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. and will focus on the diverse habitats and ecosystem at Hitchcock Nature Center. Sunday sessions will be held from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. and will focus on cultivating attentiveness and mindfulness in nature through writing, discussion of readings, & contemplative walking (sauntering after Thoreau) & sitting quietly.

Students may want to bring food, water, binoculars, hand lenses, notebooks & field guides. Please note the Naturalist School workshops require walking long distances over steep terrain & will take place in most weather conditions. Workshops may be physically challenging for participants. Pre-registration is required for these workshops as space is limited. Participants may register for individual sessions at a cost of $15.00 per session or for the full 6 session field season at a discounted price of $75.00.

Sunday, August 27th: 8:00 to 10:30 a.m.

Saturday, September 2nd: 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Sunday, September 10th: 8:00 to 10:30 a.m.

Saturday, September 16th: 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The Naturalist School at Hitchcock Nature Center field seasons are a partnership effort between Pottawattamie County Conservation & New Tree School. These field seasons are for those who seek to deepen awareness of, commitment to, & engagement in citizen science, nature education, & conservation in Iowa's Loess Hills & the surrounding ecosystems. These workshops are intended for adults who love nature and are committed to the study, conservation, & preservation of native ecosystems.
