Plymouth County Conservation is constantly working on improving conservation opportunities throughout the county. Currently there are two projects in the works for Plymouth County Conservation: the construction of a new recreation area named 'Rivers Bend Wildlife Area and the building of a new playground.

River's Bend Wildlife Area
It's been an on going project, but River's Bend Wildlife Area, located at 11826 180th St. just south of Akron, is finally completed!
This newly developed area sports a 20 acre, stocked, fishing lake, as well as a restroom and picnic shelter.  A concrete boat ramp allows access to the lake for non-gas powered boats and there are fishing jetties with picnic tables.  Prairie habitat was planted around the lake for wildlife.
In late summer 2016 we began work on building a campground, we finished this project in June of 2017. The campground is now open. There are 10 camp sites with water and electricity.  The cost is $20 per day.  There is NO SWIMMING ALLOWED!

Playground Project
We have spent the last 4 years planning and hosting events for our community to help raise money for a new playground on the south side of Hillview Recreation Area by Bur Oak campground.  There is a wooden playground that exists now that was built in 1982 so as of this year, 2017, it is 35 years old!!  The playground we envision will be a mix of traditional equipment such as swings and slides as well as natural hands on activities which Plymouth County Conservation staff will construct.  Examples would be tunnels made of live willow trees, steps made of tree stumps they can jump, crawl and sit on, sensory tables with "nature things" on them which will also be accessible to those with mobility limitations and finally, lots of loose parts to build forts and play games with.
We are happy to announce, as of this date, June 2017, we have raised a little over $37,000! We would like to thank the Gilchrist Foundation for their generosity in awarding us a $5000 grant as well as our community for all the generous donations we have received!  We will break ground on this project in late summer 2017.   If you would like to donate to help us build this much needed playground call 712-947-4270, email Diana at or simply go to the Donate Now tab!
